Take a Deep Dive into the a2tools / SURL project and how it contrasts with FujiNet as our virtual hosts cover Apple II code author Colin Leroy-Mira as he ports the Weather Application from FujiNet dependancies to his a2tools project using his SURL internet proxy…
a2tools (https://github.com/colinleroy/a2tools) – is a fascinating project that lets your Apple IIc connect to the internet using just its serial cable – but it does rely on a modern proxy (linux computer with net access and serial port) to do the heavy lifting… just like the FujiNet.
The fact that Colin could port this over to a working version in about 35 minutes is a testament to the professional level of programming that has gone into the FujiNet effort over the past few years- especially the fujinet-lib mini-project that has enabled the abstraction of most of the fujinet network code out of the applications that want to use them.
This Deep Dive audio (above) was created by NotebookLLM and used the video Colin posted about his journey porting the Weather App as input. Colins original video is definitely worth watching…below. Anyone interested in cc65 programming on the Apple can learn some tricks watching Colin at work:
